People in Germany are strongly intended to keep following Christmas Fairs traditions this year in spite of the Coronavirus outbreak. The Fairs will be organized but with some restrictions and changes in the arrangements. Several cities in Germany are already checking new concepts for Christmas Fairs to keep the holiday tradition and to avoid potential virus spread, when too many people are present in one location.
In Saxony they are not going to cancel Christmas Fair celebrations. According to poll results almost 60% of the citizens of Saxony are going to follow the old traditions of Christmas in spite of the coronavirus.
The main problem already identified by the experts is the necessity to arrange the flow of people in such a way that they do not stop in front of the stands. In Nuremberg, where one of the most famous Christmas Fairs in Germany is arranged, they are looking at the option of selling food and drinks but without places to sit.
In Augsburg they are going to increase the territory where the Christmas Fair will be held. It is going to be the whole city center. The aim of such measures is to avoid gathering too many people in one close location.
In Mainz they probably will limit the number of visitors. Everybody visiting fairs will be obliged to wear a face mask.
In general, the authorities acknowledge that such measures will impact the holiday mood of people. Anyway, the Germans are planning to insist on Christmas Fairs as this is not only an old tradition, but also a potential source of income for hundreds of people.
These are not apparently the only changes to be introduced for Christmas Fair celebrations this year, more updates to follow. Stay safe!
