On the 9th of June Cyprus opened its borders for the tourists. All countries have been grouped into three groups. The citizens residing on the territory of group A are allowed to enter the island without any limitations.
The citizens of the other groups will be asked to provide a negative COVID 19 test results or just will not be allowed to cross the border.
Travelers coming to Cyprus from category B right after the arrival must confirm that they do not have Coronavirus. Usually a certificate issued no earlier than 72 hours is OK to comply with this requirement. Though in a number of countries such a test is rather expensive. For example, in Great Britain private clinics charge 200 pounds for COVID19 test.
In order to motivate tourists to come to Cyprus local authorities are considering “pull tests” in the airports of the island. It means if you are arriving in Cyprus with a family, one test will be enough. For example if there are 4 persons in your family, only one person must take a test instead of 4.
The local experts assure, group testing is the method applied worldwide.
Some of the local hotels offer reimbursement to cover COVID19 test expenditures to attract tourists. The test will be taken in the airport and paid by the hotel.
Initially the hotels and the authorities of Cyprus reached an agreement to divide the expenses related to COVID19 tests for the tourists arriving in Larnaka and Paphos. According to this agreement the hotels and the local authorities cover 20 EUR each for the tourists to take tests.
