November 10, 2020
For the first time famous Christmas market in Nuremberg will be cancelled this year. It has been 73 years during which the city was celebrating Christmas on the main square.
The history of Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt goes back to 1628, making it one of the oldest markets opened for the Christmas season. The market square was transformed into a marketplace for the period of 4 weeks and was one of the main attractions for the tourists. Every year almost 2 million people visit Nuremberg.
In December 2020, unfortunately, there will be no seasonal celebrations for the tourists and for the locals because of the pandemic.
Hopefully this is the only time such strict measures are taken and we shall have the opportunity to visit Nuremberg for Christmas and on other occasions.
