Bordeaux monument aux Girondins fountain was erected to honor the heroes of French Revolution. The monument is located in the center of the Kenkons square. The height of the monument aux Girondins is 50 meters, crowned with the statute symbolizing Freedom.

At the bottom on both sides of the monument there are beautiful fountains, decorated with the group sculptures.

The monument aux Girondins was created in 1894-1902. The authors of this famous work are Victor Rich and Alphonse Duilatre. The group sculptures were created by Felix Sharpantie and Gustav Debri, the author of sea horses masterpiece.

All the sculptures have allegoric meaning. In the center of the composition there is a sculpture of a woman – the symbol of the Republic.

The second fountain has another meaning – a woman with olive tree branch is the triumph of Agreement.

All the figures of Bordeaux monument aux Girondins fountain are symbolizing peace and prosperity. And in front there is a family happily playing with a baby peacefully swimming with fish.

During the World’s War the Second the horses and some other elements of the monument were destroyed by the German Army. Fortunately in 1983 the monument aux Girondins was fully restored and now is one of the most beautiful and popular tourist destinations in Bordeaux.
